Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has said that the 2027 election will be his last attempt to contest for the presidency.
He made this known on Wednesday during an interview with Arise News ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku said the fact that it will be his final attempt makes the contest very important to him.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain also said he represents both the past and the future of Nigeria.
Explaining why he is still contesting, Atiku said that younger leaders calling for power have not met expectations. He added that they need guidance and experience from older politicians.
He also recently said that the current state of governance in Nigeria has made many older politicians remain active longer than expected.
Atiku made this statement in an interview with SYMFONI TV.
The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate said Nigeria’s situation is not what it should be under good leadership.
He explained that if the country had been properly managed, many senior politicians would have stepped aside to allow younger leaders take over.
According to him, the challenges in governance have made that difficult.
He added that their continued involvement in politics is not for personal gain, but to push for better leadership, stronger systems, and respect for the constitution.
He said, “Nigeria has suffered from years of poor governance, and that is why many of us are still active in politics longer than we planned.”
