Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Salihu Mustapha, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The senator has also picked the PDP’s Kwara Central senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
Mustapha formally obtained the PDP senatorial nomination form for the constituency, with the Kwara State PDP chairman presenting the form to him.
The senator had earlier announced his resignation from the APC, citing recent developments and internal issues within the party in Kwara State.
He said he reached the decision after weeks of consultations with party stakeholders, supporters, constituents and other concerned people across the state.
Mustapha explained that his decision was not taken lightly but followed careful consideration of developments within the APC and how they could affect his political future.
He said his decision to leave the ruling party was based on his belief that politics should focus on the people, principles and purpose.
The senator added that political parties should reflect the aspirations of the people they represent.
According to him, when a political platform no longer reflects those values and aspirations, it becomes necessary to “chart a new course.”
Mustapha stressed that his resignation from the APC was the result of careful reflection.
