The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Michael Magbisa, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) along with thousands of his supporters.

The development was made public on Wednesday through a post by former Bayelsa governor and NDC leader, Seriake Dickson. He said the move shows that more people across the country are joining the party.

Magbisa was officially received into the party by the Bayelsa State Chairman, Dauprebo Ikuromo, along with members of the state executive.

Dickson praised the former commissioner for joining the party and said the increasing number of new members shows growing trust in the NDC. He added that similar defections are happening in different parts of the country as politicians and their supporters switch parties.

He expressed confidence that the party is building strength ahead of the 2027 general elections and will be ready to compete.

The former governor also said he held meetings earlier in the day with party leaders and members from different regions. Among those present was Barnabas Ejisi, the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North-Central zone, who attended with a group of state chairmen after their own meeting.

Dickson commended their efforts in strengthening the party and encouraged them to continue working at the grassroots level.

He also revealed that other politicians from different parties have joined the NDC. They include Sidi Abdul Bomi Gulu, who was formerly with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, and Philip Johnson, a former governorship aspirant under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Taraba State. Both joined with their supporters.

Dickson described the NDC as a party that is gaining attention across the country and called on Nigerians to join as it continues to grow.
