Arsenal F.C. moved closer to clinching the Premier League title after a narrow 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. on Wednesday, with Bukayo Saka delivering the decisive goal at the Amex Stadium.
Saka marked a personal milestone in style as the 24-year-old became the fourth youngest player to reach 300 appearances for Arsenal.

His first-half effort, which took a deflection before slipping past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, proved enough to secure a vital win for the league leaders.
Despite long stretches where they struggled to dominate play, Arsenal relied on discipline, resilience, and a solid defensive display to secure the points. The victory lifted Mikel Arteta’s side seven points clear of second-placed Manchester City F.C. in the title race.
City’s unexpected 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest F.C. at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the day significantly strengthened Arsenal’s position at the top of the table. Although City still hold a game in hand and will host Arsenal in April, the London club currently controls its own destiny in the title chase.

The Gunners have now recorded three consecutive league victories, helping silence criticism that they might lack the psychological strength required to endure the pressure of a title battle. Arsenal had previously surrendered commanding leads that allowed Manchester City to claim the championship in both 2023 and 2024, but this season they appear more composed as they pursue their first English league title since 2004.
The performance on the south coast was not particularly stylish, but it continued a productive run of results for the club. Arsenal remain active in multiple competitions, having advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League, reached the League Cup final, and progressed to the FA Cup fifth round, while maintaining strong form in the league.
Brighton nearly capitalised on an early mistake from Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya inside the opening three minutes. A misplaced pass gifted possession to Carlos Baleba, whose quick attempt to lob the keeper from the edge of the area almost resulted in a goal. However, Gabriel Magalhães managed to clear the ball just before it crossed the line.

That scare appeared to sharpen Arsenal’s focus. In the ninth minute, Saka received the ball on the right flank and surged toward the edge of the penalty area. His powerful strike took a deflection off Baleba before sliding awkwardly between Verbruggen’s legs to give Arsenal the lead.
The goal was only Saka’s second in his previous 19 appearances across all competitions, yet it carried enormous significance in the title race.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler had earlier criticised Arsenal for taking excessive time over set-pieces, and he quickly voiced his frustration to the fourth official when Arsenal delayed a throw-in. His complaint sparked a tense exchange with Arteta on the touchline as both managers defended their positions.
Arsenal’s frequent reliance on set-pieces had been widely discussed following their recent win against Chelsea F.C., where both goals came from corners. The team has already scored 16 times from corner kicks during the 2025-26 campaign, matching the Premier League record for a single season. Overall, Arsenal have produced 19 goals from dead-ball situations.
Arteta dismissed criticism of the team’s tactical approach, insisting that success should not be judged solely by aesthetics. He defended his side’s methods and described their previous victory over Chelsea as “beautiful” despite claims that Arsenal might become one of the “ugliest” champions if they secure the title.

Those critics would have found little to admire in the first half against Brighton, which produced limited attacking quality and only two shots from the league leaders.
After the break, Brighton intensified their efforts in search of an equaliser. Georginio Rutter came close with a sharp half-volley that forced Raya into a strong save. Yankuba Minteh also threatened with a driving run into the Arsenal penalty area before seeing his shot deflected just wide.
Another opportunity fell to Jack Hinshelwood, whose header from close range sailed over the crossbar, much to the frustration of the home crowd.

Arsenal entered the match without French defender William Saliba, who was sidelined with an ankle injury. Even so, the visitors displayed determination and defensive discipline to protect their slim advantage and secure a crucial win in what could prove a defining moment of the title race.
