President Bola Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Professor Ayo Omotayo as the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

The renewal was announced in a statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, the appointment renewal is for a final term of four years.

The statement explained that Omotayo was first appointed to the position in 2021 and later confirmed by the Senate. It said, “President Muhammadu Buhari initially appointed Omotayo in November 2021. The Senate confirmed the appointment in February 2022.

“Omotayo is a Professor of Environmental Sustainability. He attended the University of Ibadan from 1980 to 1990, where he obtained a PhD in Geography.

“He began his teaching career at the Lagos State University in 1985 and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer in 1992 at the age of 30.

“He was the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences between 2012 and 2017 and the Director of the Centre for Planning at Lagos State University until he was appointed Director-General of the National Institute in 2021.”

In another news, President Tinubu has congratulated former president and elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, as he marks his 89th birthday on March 5.

Tinubu celebrated Obasanjo for his strong influence in Nigeria, across Africa, and in other parts of the world. The President also praised the elder statesman for his courage and sacrifices in serving the country.

Tinubu noted that Obasanjo served Nigeria as military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, when he handed over power to a civilian president, and later returned as the first civilian president in the Fourth Republic from 1999 to 2007.
