The Senate has officially confirmed Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State, used the opportunity to share his plans for developing an inclusive and transparent humanitarian framework in Nigeria.

He assured lawmakers that his leadership in the humanitarian sector would be guided by impartiality and independence, emphasizing that inclusivity would be at the heart of his approach.

During his appearance before the Senate, Doro highlighted the need to strengthen collaboration between security agencies to ensure that aid and support reach those most affected by crises. He acknowledged that identifying and reaching the right beneficiaries has often been a major challenge and stated that technology could play a crucial role in resolving this issue.

Senators, impressed by his professional background and responses, expressed confidence in his ability to perform effectively. Following a short question session, he was asked to “take a bow and leave,” signaling his confirmation.

President Bola Tinubu nominated Doro last week after the resignation of Nentawe Yilwatda, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, who recently became the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Born on March 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro brings with him over twenty years of professional experience across multiple disciplines.

He holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, along with an MBA specializing in IT-driven business strategy. As an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner, he has worked extensively within the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS), gaining practical experience in urgent care, walk-in centres, general practice, and hospital settings.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Doro has also been active in youth mentorship and social development projects both in Nigeria and among diaspora communities, focusing on empowerment and social impact.

What you should know

Bernard Doro’s confirmation as minister reflects President Tinubu’s continued focus on technocratic appointments.

With a strong background in healthcare, law, and IT, Doro is expected to bring a multidisciplinary approach to Nigeria’s humanitarian and poverty reduction efforts, emphasizing technology, collaboration, and fairness in crisis response.
