Manchester City intensified the Premier League title race on Wednesday night with a commanding 3-0 victory over Fulham, narrowing Arsenal’s lead at the summit to just three points.

Pep Guardiola’s side, who have struggled with second-half dips in recent weeks, ensured there would be no late drama this time by wrapping up the contest before the interval.

Three goals inside a devastating 15-minute first-half spell from Antoine Semenyo, Nico O’Reilly, and Erling Haaland secured a 20th straight win over Fulham across all competitions.

Arsenal now have the opportunity to restore their advantage to six points when they travel to face Brentford on Thursday. However, the Gunners’ cushion has shrunk dramatically from nine points to three within four days, handing City renewed belief in their quest to prevent Arsenal from clinching a first league crown in 22 years.

City entered the match buoyed by a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday — a rare triumph at the historic ground. The January additions of Semenyo and Marc Guehi have injected renewed attacking sharpness and defensive resilience, breathing life into City’s title push.

Semenyo opened the scoring with his fifth goal since arriving from Bournemouth after Sander Berge inadvertently diverted Matheus Nunes’ cross into his path. The Ghanaian then turned creator, setting up O’Reilly, who delicately lifted the ball over Bernd Leno following a swift counter-attack.

Haaland, who converted a stoppage-time penalty at Anfield in the previous match, had admitted he needed to improve after scoring just once from open play in his prior 13 outings. The Norwegian answered that challenge emphatically, firing into the bottom corner from outside the box in the 39th minute — his first non-penalty Premier League goal since December 20.

With the match effectively settled, Guardiola opted to rest Haaland in the second half, introducing Omar Marmoush in his place.

Fulham had staged a spirited fightback from 5-1 down in a dramatic 5-4 encounter between the sides in December. This time, City’s intensity dipped after the break, but without consequence, as they comfortably saw out the win.

The result sends a clear message to Arsenal that the reigning champions remain firmly in pursuit as the title race enters a decisive phase.

What you should know

Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Fulham reduced Arsenal’s Premier League lead to three points, significantly tightening the title race.

City’s first-half blitz, featuring goals from Semenyo, O’Reilly, and Haaland, secured a 20th consecutive win over Fulham in all competitions. Arsenal can extend their lead again with a win at Brentford, but momentum appears to be shifting.

Guardiola’s side, strengthened by January signings, are showing renewed consistency as they aim to deny Arsenal a long-awaited league triumph.
