The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the expulsion of its former Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala-Gombe, and a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, from the party.
They were expelled over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision was announced during the party’s national convention held in Abuja by a faction led by former Senate President, David Mark.
The convention took place at the Rainbow Events Centre and had over 3,000 delegates and political stakeholders in attendance as the party stepped up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The David Mark-led faction also expelled Kenneth Ehiator, Stella Chukwu, and Elias Adiukwu from the party.
Binos Yaroe, the senator representing Adamawa South, moved the motion for their expulsion during the convention, and it was quickly seconded and approved by the delegates present.
Reports indicate that Bala-Gombe and David Mark have been involved in a leadership dispute over control of the party at the national level.
Recently, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC.
INEC also said it would not recognise Nafiu Bala-Gombe, who is seeking to be declared national chairman through ongoing court cases.
In a statement, the commission said it would suspend recognition of all factions within the party and would not monitor any conventions or congresses organised by the rival groups.
The commission added that this decision would remain until a final judgment is given by the Federal High Court.
The development comes as the leadership crisis within the ADC continues to deepen, following a recent judgment by the Court of Appeal.
The disagreement over leadership has led to several legal battles, creating uncertainty about who is officially recognised as the party’s leader.
