The Benue State Government has declared a one-week Easter holiday for public and civil servants across the state.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary (General Services), Godwin Tighil, on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, Deborah Aber.

According to the statement titled “Declaration of Public Holiday To Mark Easter Celebration,” workers are to begin the holiday from Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and resume duties on April 8, 2026.

The statement noted that the directive was approved by the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

“His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has directed that all public and civil servants should embark on the Easter holiday, effective Tuesday, 31st March, 2026, by 1 pm,” the statement read.

The government, however, directed workers providing essential services to remain at their duty posts to handle urgent public matters.

“Those on essential services are directed to remain at their duty posts to attend to issues of human and urgent public interests,” the statement added.

It further stated that official duties will resume on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Governor Alia also extended Easter greetings to residents of Benue State and urged them to pray for peace in the state and across the country during the celebration.

“His Excellency wishes Benue people happy holidays and urged citizens to continue to pray for the peace of the state and the nation in the spirit of Easter celebration,” the statement said.

The announcement marks the first time the governor has approved a one-week Easter holiday for workers in the state. However, he had earlier approved a two-week holiday for Christmas celebrations in the past.
