Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, has publicly slammed comedian and content creator Nasboi for posting a video he claims falsely suggests insecurity under the current administration.
In a post on his verified X account on Tuesday, Olusegun accused Nasboi of “intentionally” using his platform to “spread fear” by sharing footage that, according to the presidential aide, has no connection to Nigeria.
“You cannot continue to intentionally use your page to spread fear, @iamnasboi, for whatever reason you might think you have,” Olusegun wrote.
He further explained that the video was originally pulled from an account that identified the armed men as “Beninese terrorists” operating in the Benin Republic. “This means the footage is from the Benin Republic and has nothing to do with Nigeria,” the aide stressed.
The presidential assistant described Nasboi’s action as “the highest form of irresponsibility,” especially given the comedian’s wide reach on social media. “We have our challenges, but you are using your wide reach to spread fear with fake footage… You can do better!” he added.
However, Olusegun did not provide independent verification, timestamps, or links to the source to substantiate his claim about the video’s origin.
Earlier on Tuesday, Nasboi had posted the clip with the provocative caption “PRESIDENT @officialABAT,” a direct reference to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The footage shows a group of armed men on motorcycles descending on a dusty rural settlement, apparently conducting a raid. The scenes are chaotic and alarming, with riders brandishing weapons as residents appear to scatter visuals that could easily be interpreted by viewers as depicting banditry or terrorist activity within Nigeria.
Such content resonates strongly in a country still battling various security challenges, including banditry in the North West, insurgency in the North East, and farmer-herder clashes in other regions. Critics of the government often use graphic videos to highlight perceived failures in addressing insecurity.
Nasboi, whose real name is Nassir Isah, is a popular Nigerian comedian and content creator known for his skits, social commentary, and large following, particularly among young Nigerians. His videos frequently blend humor with pointed observations on governance, economy, and daily life.
This latest clash comes amid heightened sensitivity from the Tinubu administration regarding negative portrayals on social media. With economic hardships, rising inflation, and persistent security concerns dominating public discourse, videos that appear to show violence are quickly seized upon by both critics and defenders of the government.
Olusegun’s intervention reflects a pattern in which government officials have increasingly pushed back against what they describe as “fake news” or decontextualized content capable of inciting public anxiety or damaging the country’s image.
As of the time of this report, Nasboi had not publicly responded to Olusegun’s accusations. The video in question remains viewable on his page, continuing to generate reactions from thousands of his followers.
