Former Vice President and presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern that the objectives behind the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 have not been achieved, warning that Nigeria’s challenges have worsened over the years.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Atiku recalled that the APC was created to address perceived failings in the nation’s democratic system and tackle critical issues such as insecurity, economic decline, and weak governance structures.
“We did this exercise in 2014, not so? We came together and formed APC because we felt democracy was faltering, only for us to end up at the same position we found ourselves in 2014, worse,” he said.

He emphasised that the problems which existed at the time of the party’s founding have intensified, rather than been resolved.
“In 2014, the major challenges were insecurity, the economy, and so on. Now it is even worse than what we fought against,” Atiku said, urging Nigerians and political leaders to focus on restoring democratic integrity and ensuring meaningful progress.
He concluded by stressing that a renewed commitment to strengthening democratic institutions is necessary to achieve the goals that motivated the APC’s creation and to improve the lives of citizens.
