The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has exposed a suspected child trafficking ring operating under the guise of an orphanage in the Saburi area of Abuja.
The operation came to light after community members submitted a petition to the Office of the Commissioner of Police on January 29, 2026, raising alarms over unusual activities at the facility. Acting promptly, the police launched a discreet but thorough investigation into the allegations, uncovering disturbing details.
Preliminary findings indicate that the orphanage allegedly targeted families from rural communities, offering promises of education and a better life in urban areas. Authorities believe this could have facilitated the movement of children to other locations within Nigeria.

So far, law enforcement officers have rescued 21 of the 46 children linked to the suspected trafficking operation. The rescued children are currently undergoing processes to ensure their safe return to their families, while police continue efforts to locate the remaining minors and apprehend all individuals involved.
The FCT Police Command has urged parents and guardians to exercise caution, warning that not all sponsorships or educational offers are legitimate. The Command praised the Saburi community for their vigilance and collaboration, stressing the importance of reporting suspicious activities to authorities via emergency lines 08028940883 and 08032003913.
“The safety and welfare of children remain a top priority,” the police affirmed, reiterating their commitment to safeguarding vulnerable members of society.
