Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has officially submitted his nomination form for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries, formally declaring his intention to seek a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor made this known on Wednesday while speaking with Government House correspondents at the Victor Attah International Airport shortly after returning from Abuja, where he completed the submission process.

Eno called on members of the APC in Akwa Ibom State to support his bid during the party primaries, stressing that his decision to seek re-election is driven by the need to consolidate the development projects currently underway across the state.

“I have just submitted the nomination form. We call on members of the party to support our nomination during the primaries, as we will continue to pray and trust God for more development to thrive in the state,” the governor said.

He explained that his administration remains focused on sustaining the pace of development and ensuring that ongoing initiatives are completed for the benefit of the people.

According to him, although his government has recorded notable progress since assuming office, many of the projects started under his administration are still at various stages of implementation and require continuity for completion.

Eno disclosed that more than 82 projects are currently ongoing across different sectors of the state’s economy.

He said many of these projects may not be fully completed within his current tenure, making a second term necessary to deliver on the administration’s broader development agenda.

“We will continue to pray, trust in God, and remain committed to serving our people. But you can see clearly that there is still so much work on the ground.

“Many of the projects we have started, about 82 projects, will not be fully completed within this term.

“That is why we are asking for another mandate to drive home these initiatives and consolidate on the progress already made for the benefit of our people,” he added.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the people of Akwa Ibom for their support throughout the past three years of his administration.

He acknowledged what he described as the trust and encouragement shown by residents, noting that their support has been instrumental in advancing his government’s programmes.

Eno expressed optimism that the same level of backing would continue through the final year of his first tenure and into a possible second term.

His formal entry into the APC governorship race signals the beginning of what is expected to be a closely watched political contest in Akwa Ibom as political activities ahead of 2027 gather momentum.

Political observers say his re-election bid will largely be assessed on the delivery and impact of his administration’s ongoing projects and overall governance performance.

What You Should Know

Governor Umo Eno’s submission of his APC nomination form marks a major step in Akwa Ibom’s 2027 political build-up.

His campaign appears centered on continuity, with emphasis on completing over 82 ongoing projects across the state. Incumbent governors often anchor second-term bids on unfinished projects and policy consolidation, making infrastructure delivery a key factor in voter perception.

The APC primaries in Akwa Ibom will likely test Eno’s influence within the party and set the tone for what could become one of the state’s most significant governorship contests in recent political history.
