Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced an indefinite break from releasing new music.
The declaration came during a livestream session with content creator Davrel, where the 30BG frontman shut down fan speculation with characteristic bluntness.
“Stop asking me when I am dropping new music. I am on a musical break. Like I said, if you go to the club right now, 10 out of 20 songs are mine. So I am on a musical break,” he stated.
The confidence behind his words carries weight. Davido recently wrapped up his 5IVE album cycle, earning significant acclaim and a headline spot at Coachella 2026. In 2025, he topped the Billboard World Album Chart as the number one Afrobeats artist, with his Omah Lay collaboration ‘With You’ becoming the most streamed Nigerian song of the year on Spotify.
Beyond music, Davido has paused his career to lead a grassroots youth mobilization campaign supporting the re-election bid of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, having been appointed chairman of a strategic youth campaign committee.
“I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle, not only because he is my uncle but also because I believe in what he is doing,” he said.
During the same livestream, Davido also praised Nigeria’s growing celebrity boxing tournament, calling it “a welcome development.” The tournament recently saw popular streamer Cater Efe dethrone controversial singer Portable as reigning champion.
With a catalog streamed over 2 billion times worldwide and a label, Davido Music Worldwide, still actively running, the OBO is stepping back—but far from stepping out.
