The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has finalized plans to host a high-profile reception welcoming Governor Umo Eno into the party.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday and will see the attendance of prominent national figures including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and several state governors under the party’s umbrella.

Senator Ita Enang, a well-known APC stalwart and former Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly and Niger Delta Affairs, confirmed these developments during a press briefing in Uyo on Friday. Enang described the reception as a significant political moment not only for Akwa Ibom but for the APC at large, stressing that comprehensive preparations have been made to ensure a smooth and orderly event.

His assurance comes on the heels of a security briefing by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, who informed the public that security has been intensified across the state. CP Azare made it clear that the security architecture is fully activated for the event and warned any potential troublemakers to stay away.

According to him, the police and other security agencies are ready to deal decisively with criminal elements seeking to disrupt the gathering.

Senator Enang also highlighted that all necessary modalities were in place to welcome Governor Umo Eno and his delegation into the APC fold, emphasizing the party’s readiness to receive them warmly. He portrayed the governor’s defection as a significant merger that has the potential to bring substantial political and developmental gains to the state, as it would fuse together the influence and resources of both camps.

Offering further clarity, Enang stated, “Let me add to all the assurances that we have given to the Governor and the entire delegation that are joining us that we will keep and honour all agreements and work with them to ensure that they understand and assimilate into the progressive ideas of the APC.”

He went on to affirm that the party intends to work closely with the state government to realign its programs and initiatives with the ideological framework and manifesto of the APC. According to him, aligning governance in Akwa Ibom with the party’s broader goals will not only bring unity but will further enhance the APC’s appeal and support base among the people of the state.

“We will also work with them to ensure that programmes and projects of the state government and all actions of the state government are accord with the ideals and manifesto of APC because this is what has won us into the heart of the people,” he added.

The upcoming reception is seen by political observers as a major event in the realignment of forces in Akwa Ibom and potentially a turning point in the political fortunes of the APC in the state.
