The Nigerian gospel music scene has been struck by a profound and sudden loss with the passing of Taiwo Adegbodu, one-half of the beloved and influential duo known as the Adegbodu Twins.

The news, which broke on Sunday, March 1, 2026, has sent waves of grief through churches, fans, and fellow artists across the country, particularly in the Yoruba-speaking Southwest region, where their ministry had deep roots.

Taiwo’s twin brother and lifelong musical partner, Kehinde Adegbodu, shared the heartbreaking announcement via the duo’s official social media channels, including their Facebook page.

In an emotional post that has since circulated widely, Kehinde poured out his anguish in raw, unfiltered words: “TAIWO, why will you leave your kids and me without notification? My heart is bleeding, Lord. How do you want me to cope without him? God, why? This is too much for me to bear!!!”

The message captured the unique pain of losing not just a sibling but the other half of a shared spiritual and creative identity. The Adegbodu Twins—Taiwo and Kehinde—had built their career on an inseparable bond, performing together in matching outfits, harmonizing with precision, and delivering high-energy worship sessions that often left congregations deeply moved. Their twin dynamic on stage was more than a gimmick; it symbolized unity, synergy, and the power of partnership in ministry.

Rising to prominence in the late 1990s, the duo released their debut album, Faratimi (Lean on Me), in 1999, marking the beginning of a journey that would see them become staples in Yoruba gospel music. Over the decades, their spirited songs, dynamic live ministrations, and ability to blend traditional elements with contemporary worship styles earned them a loyal following.

They were especially cherished in Pentecostal and evangelical circles, where their music served as a soundtrack for revivals, crusades, and church services throughout Nigeria.

Colleagues and fans have begun expressing condolences online and in the media, describing Taiwo as a vessel of God’s anointing whose voice carried conviction and joy. Tributes highlight the duo’s role in shaping the sound of Yoruba gospel, inspiring younger artists, and touching countless lives through their commitment to evangelism through song.

As of Sunday afternoon, no official cause of death has been released by the family or management team, and funeral arrangements remain undisclosed. Speculation circulates on social platforms, but out of respect for the grieving family, details are being withheld pending further confirmation.

The sudden nature of Taiwo’s departure—coming without apparent warning—has amplified the sorrow felt by many. For Kehinde, the surviving twin, the road ahead will be unimaginably difficult, as he faces not only personal bereavement but also the challenge of continuing a ministry long defined by two voices, two hearts, and one calling.

In this moment of collective mourning, the gospel community is uniting in prayer for the Adegbodu family, Taiwo’s children, and all those who knew and loved him. As one fan poignantly noted amid the flood of tributes, “May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant comfort that surpasses understanding to those left behind.”

The Adegbodu Twins’ legacy endures through the countless lives they touched and the songs that still echo in worship centers across the nation. Taiwo Adegbodu may have left this earthly stage, but his contribution to Nigerian gospel music will continue to resonate for generations to come.
