The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, Aminu Bande, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following his resignation from the PDP.

Bande was formally received at the ADC state secretariat by the party’s chairman, Sufiyanu Bala, where he was presented with his membership card on Monday, confirming his new political affiliation.

The retired army general had earlier resigned from the PDP on Sunday through a letter addressed to his ward chairman in Nasarawa I, Birnin Kebbi, stating that his decision took immediate effect.

In the letter, Bande explained that his departure followed deep reflection and consultations with associates and key stakeholders. He noted that the move was necessary to align with what he described as the collective decision of his people to embrace a more stable political platform capable of delivering good, just, and fair governance in Kebbi State and across Nigeria.

Although he did not initially disclose his next political destination, his reception into the ADC has now confirmed his political realignment.

Aminu Bande was the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, where he lost to the incumbent governor, Nasir Idris.

What you should know

Aminu Bande, PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kebbi State, has officially defected to the ADC after resigning from his former party.

His move signals a growing trend of political realignments ahead of future elections.

Having lost the 2023 election to Governor Nasir Idris, Bande’s shift to ADC could reshape the opposition landscape in Kebbi State as parties begin early positioning for upcoming political contests.
