Some filling stations across Nigeria have increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, following a rise in ex-depot prices.
A market survey on Thursday showed that AA Rano, Ranoil and some other filling stations raised their petrol price to N1,220 per litre, up from between N1,170 and N1,180 per litre in Abuja and surrounding areas.
The latest adjustment represents an increase of between N40 and N50 per litre.
However, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and some other filling stations maintained their pump prices, which ranged between N1,155 and N1,205 per litre as of the time the report was filed.
The increase in retail prices follows a sharp rise in the ex-depot price of petrol, which climbed to between N1,125 and N1,175 per litre from about N1,090 per litre.
The development comes after Dangote Refinery resumed the sale of refined petroleum products in United States dollars instead of naira, fixing the ex-depot price of petrol at $0.799 per litre, equivalent to about N1,075 per litre.
Earlier, Dangote Refinery dismissed reports claiming it had suspended gantry petrol sales to off-takers, describing the reports as false.
Meanwhile, global crude oil prices declined slightly on Thursday, with Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude both falling by at least one per cent to about $84 and $78 per barrel, respectively.
