A disturbing video circulating online has sparked reactions after a man was allegedly assaulted inside a major market in Kano during what witnesses described as a political argument linked to the 2027 elections.

According to claims accompanying the viral footage, the man was attempting to persuade traders and customers in the market to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections when the situation suddenly escalated into violence.

The video captured a chaotic scene inside a crowded market alley surrounded by shops and makeshift tarpaulin coverings, as a group of men confronted and physically attacked the victim.

In the footage, the man appeared overwhelmed as punches and slaps were thrown from different directions while dust filled the air during the struggle. He was seen attempting to shield himself while being pushed around by the crowd.

Some individuals in the area were observed watching the incident unfold, while others allegedly joined the assault.

The video has since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the violence and warning against growing political intolerance ahead of the 2027 elections.

Several users stressed that political disagreements should never result in physical attacks, regardless of party affiliation or personal opinion.

Others, however, questioned the full circumstances surrounding the altercation, arguing that the viral clip alone may not provide complete context about what happened before the violence erupted.

As of the time of reporting, security authorities in Kano State had not officially commented on the incident, and the identity or condition of the assaulted man remained unclear.

The development comes amid increasing political tension and heated debates across parts of the country as parties and supporters begin early mobilisation ahead of the next election cycle.

What You Should Know

Political clashes and mob attacks linked to elections have remained a recurring concern in Nigeria, especially during periods of heightened political activity.

Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most politically influential states, often experiences intense political rivalry during election seasons.

With conversations around the 2027 elections already gaining momentum, observers have repeatedly called for tolerance, peaceful engagement and responsible political conduct among supporters of different parties to prevent violence and public unrest.
