APC Sets Dates for Screening of Aspirants

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a two-day screening exercise for Senate and House of Representatives aspirants ahead of its legislative primary elections, beginning this weekend.

In an official statement released on Friday in the nation’s capital, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, confirmed that the screening of senatorial aspirants will be conducted on May 9 and 10, 2026, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, the landmark venue formerly known as the Sheraton Hotel, located in the heart of Abuja.

Simultaneously, aspirants seeking tickets to contest seats in the House of Representatives will undergo their own screening at Treasures Suites and Conferences, also in Abuja, on the same dates.

Both exercises are scheduled to begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. on each of the two days, signaling the party’s intent to run a tightly organized and time-conscious process.

The announcement marks a critical milestone in the APC’s pre-election machinery, as the screening stage represents the first significant filter through which the party vets the eligibility, credentials, and suitability of individuals seeking its coveted legislative tickets.

It is at this juncture that the party evaluates aspirants against established criteria, including party loyalty, financial accountability, academic qualifications, and compliance with constitutional requirements.

In a pointed advisory contained in the statement, the APC urged all aspirants to attend the screening punctually and to come armed with all required documents and credentials.

The directive, while seemingly routine, carries a stern undertone, a signal that the party will brook no tardiness or administrative lapses in what is expected to be a keenly contested selection process.

The APC, as Nigeria’s ruling party, holds sway in a considerable number of states and federal constituencies, making its legislative tickets among the most sought-after in Nigerian politics. In many parts of the country, winning the APC primary is widely regarded as tantamount to winning the general election itself.

The coming days are expected to see a flurry of behind-the-scenes activity, as aspirants and their political camps make last-minute arrangements to ensure full compliance with the party’s screening requirements.

With stakes this high and competition this fierce, the Abuja Continental Hotel and Treasures Suites are set to become the epicenters of political tension and ambition as Nigeria’s electoral season begins to gather full steam.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The APC has officially launched its legislative screening process, setting May 9–10, 2026, as the dates for vetting Senate and House of Representatives aspirants at two separate Abuja venues.

With the party’s primary tickets widely considered a near-guarantee of electoral victory in many constituencies, this weekend’s exercise is far more than an administrative formality; it is the first and arguably most decisive battleground in Nigeria’s unfolding 2027 electoral contest.

Aspirants have been warned to arrive punctually with all required credentials, as any lapse at this stage could mark the end of their political ambitions before the race truly begins.
