The Progressive Governors Forum has passed a vote of confidence in its chairman, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and vice-chairman, Governor Uba Sani, reaffirming its support for their leadership amid speculation of internal divisions within the forum.

The endorsement was reached during a closed-door meeting of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja and was later reiterated during a press briefing.

Governor Nasir Idris moved the motion expressing confidence in Uzodimma’s leadership, while Governor Uba Sani seconded it.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Idris dismissed reports suggesting that Uzodimma had been removed as chairman of the forum, insisting that the governors remained united behind him.

According to him, more than 18 governors attended the meeting and collectively reaffirmed their confidence in Uzodimma’s leadership of the forum.

He added that Uzodimma’s role in presiding over the meeting alongside his deputy was clear evidence that the leadership structure of the forum remained unchanged.

Idris also urged the media to exercise caution when reporting political developments, advising journalists to verify the credibility of their sources before publication.

Hope Uzodimma

Speaking at the briefing, Uzodimma described the forum as united and said it would not be distracted by what he termed fake news.

The Imo State governor stated that the governors were currently focused on mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

“As you are aware, just two days ago, we accompanied Vice President Kashim Shettima to submit the nomination forms of President Tinubu, signifying that he is recontesting. We have just concluded a meeting to reaffirm our unflinching support for him,” Uzodimma said.

He noted that the forum had resolved to fully support Tinubu’s re-election bid and would not allow distractions or political pressure to weaken that commitment.

Uzodimma explained that the governors’ backing for the president was based on what they consider pragmatic reforms aimed at repositioning the economy and improving infrastructure across the country.

He further called on Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election to allow the continuation of the administration’s programmes and policy reforms.

The latest declaration appears to put to rest recent speculations of a leadership crisis within the PGF and reinforces the forum’s alignment with Tinubu’s 2027 political ambitions.

What You Should Know

The vote of confidence passed on Hope Uzodimma and Uba Sani is a direct response to recent rumours of internal divisions within the Progressive Governors Forum.

By publicly reaffirming support for its leadership, APC governors are signalling unity ahead of the 2027 election cycle. The meeting also underscores the forum’s strong backing for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Given the PGF’s influence within the APC, its internal stability will play a critical role in shaping the ruling party’s political direction in the months ahead.
