The All Progressives Congress has cleared Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to contest for a second term in the 2027 governorship election.

The development followed the governor’s successful screening by the party’s National Working Committee after he submitted his nomination and screening forms.

The party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, who led the screening exercise at the Plateau Governor’s Lodge, confirmed that the governor met all requirements to seek re-election on the platform of the ruling party.

“We have carefully reviewed his credentials and performance. He has satisfied all the conditions to seek re-election under our party,” Yilwatda said.

He further disclosed that Governor Yusuf currently stands as the only aspirant seeking the APC governorship ticket in Kano State ahead of the 2027 polls.

“As of now, Governor Yusuf stands as the sole aspirant for the APC governorship ticket in Kano State ahead of 2027,” he added.

In a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the clearance was described as a strong endorsement of Yusuf’s leadership and performance in office.

Reacting to the development, Yusuf expressed gratitude to the party leadership for what he described as a demonstration of trust and confidence.

“I appreciate the confidence the party has placed in me. This support strengthens my resolve to serve the people of Kano State with dedication,” he said.

The governor pledged to sustain his administration’s policies and continue implementing programmes aimed at improving the lives of residents across the state.

“My focus remains on delivering the dividends of democracy, promoting peace, and driving economic growth and inclusive development across the state,” he added.

Yusuf also called on party members to remain united and committed as preparations intensify for the next electoral cycle.

“We must continue to work together to secure victory for our great party in 2027,” he said.

The clearance positions Yusuf as the APC’s leading contender in Kano, setting the stage for what is expected to be a keenly contested governorship race in one of Nigeria’s most politically significant states.

What You Should Know

Governor Abba Yusuf’s clearance by the APC National Working Committee signals strong internal backing for his second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Being the sole aspirant at this stage gives him a strategic advantage within the party and reflects confidence in his administration’s performance. Kano remains one of Nigeria’s most influential political states, making the governorship race highly significant.

The development also suggests that the APC is moving to consolidate support early as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the polls.
