A chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 4 in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State, Saheed Oladele, has resigned from the party, pointing to the way young people are treated in its leadership structure.

In a letter dated April 7, 2026, the APC chieftain said his decision followed recent happenings within the party in the state.

He shared his position publicly on Saturday, explaining that the current direction of the party does not give youths a real role in decision-making.

He stated that although young members are often involved in party activities, they are not given real influence.

According to him, this goes against his belief in fair participation and inclusive leadership.

Oladele noted that he had been part of the APC since its early days and had worked to promote unity within the party.

He also recalled his efforts as one of those who showed interest in contesting for the governorship, adding that his political journey has always been tied to pushing for youth participation.

He also mentioned his involvement in the Youth O’Clock movement, which focuses on giving younger Nigerians a stronger voice in governance and public policy.

He said his commitment to the people is more important than staying in a system that does not support their growth.

Following this, he confirmed that his resignation takes effect immediately.

He also appreciated party leaders and members for the chance to serve, while stating that he will continue to contribute to the progress of Oyo State and the country.

His exit comes at a time when political activities are gradually building ahead of the 2027 general elections, including the governorship race in Oyo State.

Before leaving the APC, Oladele was seen as one of the early aspirants within the party and had been meeting stakeholders across different levels to gain support.

He had built his campaign around unity and youth inclusion, placing himself among those calling for a new generation of leadership.

Within the APC, other figures already linked to the governorship race include Teslim Folarin, Adebayo Adelabu, Fatai Buhari, Adebayo Shittu, and Remi Oseni.

The party is expected to prepare strongly for the election as it seeks to return to power after losing to Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019.

There have also been signs that other political groups are paying attention to Oladele.

Reports suggest that leaders of the Social Democratic Party in Oyo State had earlier shown interest in working with him, seeing him as a possible candidate for the 2027 election.
