The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the foremost umbrella body representing screen actors in Nollywood, received a special recognition award during the grand unveiling of “The Compatriots Newspaper” at the NERDC Conference Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The event, held recently, marked the official launch of the publication and doubled as a platform to celebrate excellence across media and entertainment sectors.

The ceremony drew a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, seasoned media practitioners, industry stakeholders, and enthusiasts. Attendees filled the venue in a display of vibrant support for both the new media venture and outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s creative landscape.

Leading the strong delegation from the Lagos State Chapter of the AGN was Acting Chairman High Chief Funmilayo Ikubuwaye Mary Edward, accompanied by key executives, including Public Relations Officer Ambassador Cornell Udofia, Director of Guild Services Emmanuel Onyika, Financial Secretary Tunde Shado, and prominent member Oby Express, among other committed guild members.

Their presence underscored the chapter’s active engagement and solidarity with initiatives that highlight the intersection of media and the arts.

The award was conferred on the AGN in acknowledgment of its longstanding and impactful role in nurturing the growth of Nollywood—Africa’s most prolific film industry—and its unwavering dedication to upholding professionalism, sparking creativity, and advancing cultural development through storytelling that resonates locally and globally.

As the official representative body for screen performers since its registration in 1998, the guild has consistently worked to protect members’ welfare, promote ethical standards, and position Nigerian talent on the international stage.

Speaking on behalf of the guild during the event, members expressed deep gratitude for the honor. They described the recognition as a timely morale booster for practitioners in the entertainment industry, urging continued dedication to productions that educate, entertain, and contribute positively to society.

The launch also spotlighted the publisher of The Compatriots Newspaper, Joshua Uloko, who earned widespread commendation from prominent personalities and media colleagues for his bold initiative.

Attendees praised his vision and steadfast commitment to responsible journalism that prioritizes national development, accountability, and constructive discourse in Nigeria’s media space.

This special recognition of the AGN at the event highlighted the deepening synergy between Nigeria’s media fraternity and its thriving creative industry. Both sectors continue to play complementary roles in promoting cultural heritage, driving social impact, and supporting national progress through truthful reporting, authentic narratives, and collaborative platforms.

The occasion served as a reminder that when media and entertainment unite in purpose, they amplify voices, preserve identity, and inspire generations—qualities that The Compatriots Newspaper appears poised to champion in its new chapter.
