The Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council in Sokoto State, Hon. Isa Salihu Kalenjine, has resigned from his position.
Kalenjine announced his resignation in a letter dated July 7, 2026, and addressed to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He said he decided to step down because of unavoidable administrative challenges, adding that he could no longer carry out the responsibilities of the office to the expected standard.
According to him, the decision was reached after consultations with his family, political associates and community stakeholders.
In the letter titled “Letter of Resignation as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area,” Kalenjine wrote:
“Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government, effective immediately from today.
“This difficult decision has been reached after extensive consultations with my family, key political associates, and community stakeholders.
“Due to recent unavoidable administrative challenges, I find that I am no longer able to execute the responsibilities of this office to the high standard expected of me.
“I am incredibly grateful to the electorate, the Council’s legislative arm, and the entire staff for the privilege and opportunity to serve our people.
“I wish the incoming leadership and administration continued success.”
Before resigning as council chairman, Kalenjine had also announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His resignation from the party was contained in a separate letter dated May 5, 2026, and released to journalists on Tuesday night in Sokoto.
The letter, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Kalanjeni Ward, Tangaza Local Government Area, stated that his decision to leave the party was based on personal reasons.
Part of the letter read:
“I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.”
