Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has etched his name into the record books at the Miami Open, surpassing Novak Djokovic’s long-standing record for the most consecutive sets won at ATP Masters 1000 level.

The milestone was achieved after Sinner’s dominant straight-sets victory over Corentin Moutet, where he secured a 6-1, 6-4 win at Hard Rock Stadium.

The victory took his streak to 26 consecutive sets, surpassing Djokovic’s previous record of 24 set in 2016 and placing him ahead of Carlos Alcaraz, who has 21.

By claiming the opening set against Moutet, Sinner officially broke the record and extended it further with a composed performance, underlining his dominance across recent Masters tournaments.

Despite the achievement, Sinner remained focused on improvement rather than accolades.

“I’m very happy but at the same time I don’t play for this. I’m very happy to be here. It’s been a tournament I’ve also missed last year. So I’m very happy,” he said.

Reflecting on the nature of the sport, he added, “Everything can happen. This sport is unpredictable. We try to keep the attention very high, as much as we can. Then we see what’s coming in the next round.

“I’m happy about today’s performance. We’re trying to improve. No day in between off, we try to rest up. Hopefully, I’ll be ready for tomorrow.”

Sinner’s remarkable run began in late 2025 at the Paris Masters, where he defeated top players including Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime on his way to the title.

He carried that form into the Indian Wells Open, where he overcame opponents such as Daniil Medvedev without dropping a set.

At the ongoing Miami Open, Sinner has maintained his momentum, defeating Damir Džumhur and Moutet to reach the fourth round, where he is set to face Alex Michelsen.

The last player to take a set off Sinner remains Tallon Griekspoor, who achieved the feat during the Shanghai Masters in October 2025.

Djokovic’s previous record, which stood for nearly a decade, included victories over legends such as Rafael Nadal and Milos Raonic.

What you should know

Jannik Sinner’s record-breaking streak highlights his emergence as one of the most dominant players in modern tennis.

Surpassing Novak Djokovic’s long-standing record at the Masters 1000 level signals a shift in the sport’s competitive landscape.

With consistent performances across major tournaments, Sinner is positioning himself as a leading force on the ATP Tour, capable of challenging and redefining long-held records.
