Two hunters have been killed after gunmen attacked a convoy in Ifelodun Local Government Area, highlighting growing security concerns in the region.
The victims were part of an entourage transporting the remains of three deceased hunters from Oro-Ago to Oke-Oyan for burial when the attack occurred just a few kilometres from their destination.
A local source, Chief Odofin, confirmed that the convoy was ambushed while on its way to the burial site, turning a solemn journey into a tragic incident.
According to him, the situation could have been far worse if not for the swift intervention of local security personnel, including forest guards, police officers, and other hunters in the area.
“The attackers struck as the convoy approached Oke-Oyan, but prompt response from security operatives and local hunters curtailed the situation,” he said.

Following the attack, the bodies of the slain hunters were taken to a mortuary in Oro-Ago, while the convoy continued under heavy security escort to Oke-Oyan to complete the burial rites.
The incident adds to growing fears over insecurity in Ifelodun Local Government Area. Just days earlier, gunmen reportedly attacked a church in the same area, abducting several worshippers, some of whom were later rescued by security operatives.
Security stakeholders in the Kwara South Senatorial District have continued to raise alarms over potential further attacks, urging authorities to strengthen measures to protect lives and property.
