Veteran journalist and senior member of the Olubadan-in-Council, Lekan Alabi, has died at the age of 76.
Alabi, who held the traditional title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, reportedly died in Lagos on Saturday morning.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by the Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Adeola Oloko.
Family sources told TVC that the late journalist will be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
Lekan Alabi served as Press Secretary to successive military and civilian governors in Oyo State.
During his career, which lasted several decades, he made important contributions to journalism, public communication and strategic media management.
He was widely respected as one of Oyo State’s leading media figures and played a key role in government communication during major political transitions in the state.
Colleagues and associates remembered him for his professionalism, intelligence and dedication to effective public communication.
Beyond journalism, Alabi was also an influential traditional leader through his position in the Olubadan-in-Council, where he contributed to matters relating to Ibadan’s traditional institution.
