Nigerian senator dumps NDC for APC
Senator Rufai Hanga, who represents Kano Central Senatorial District and serves as the Senate Deputy Minority Whip, has left the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker made his decision known in a resignation letter dated August 3, 2026, which he addressed to the NDC Ward Chairman in Dakata Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
He stated that his resignation took effect immediately.
In the letter, Hanga explained that he decided to end his membership of the NDC after giving the matter careful thought.
He said he wanted to move on to other personal commitments and career plans, which led to his decision to leave the party.
The senator also appreciated the leaders and members of the NDC in Dakata Ward for the support and cooperation they gave him throughout the period he belonged to the party.
He said he valued the relationships he built and the experiences he gained while carrying out political activities with party members.
Hanga further asked the ward leadership to officially remove his name from the party’s membership register.
He also attached his NDC membership card to the resignation letter as part of the process of ending his membership.
Following his exit from the NDC, the Kano Central senator formally joined the All Progressives Congress, bringing his time in the opposition party to an end.
He ended his letter by wishing the Nigeria Democratic Congress and its members success in their future political activities.
