The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the recruitment of ad-hoc staff ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
In an announcement shared via its official X handle, the commission disclosed that applications are now open for several key roles, including Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers (POs/APOs), Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers, and RATECH personnel.

INEC urged qualified Nigerians to apply promptly through its dedicated recruitment portal, noting that the application window opened on April 25 and will close on May 18, 2026.
On eligibility, the commission stated that applicants for SPO positions must be public or civil servants on Grade Levels 10 to 14, or Registration Area Officers and INEC staff within the same grade range who are not assigned other duties.
For RAC Managers, applicants must be heads of schools or staff members (Grade Level 07 and above) in institutions or public buildings designated as Registration Area Centres.
Candidates applying for PO and APO roles must either be serving corps members, penultimate students of federal or state tertiary institutions with IT knowledge, permanent staff of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with OND qualifications or on Grade Levels 07–10, INEC staff on Grade Levels 07 and 08, or former corps members who completed service between 2023 and 2026.
For RATECH positions, INEC specified that applicants must have an IT background and be suitable ICT personnel within the commission who are not engaged in other responsibilities.
The commission also outlined strict conditions for applicants, stating that they must not be members of any political party or have publicly expressed support for any candidate or political group. Additionally, applicants are required to reside in the state where they intend to work, except for RATECH roles.

INEC advised returning applicants to apply under the category that reflects their current qualifications and status.
The recruitment exercise is part of preparations for the off-cycle governorship election in Ekiti State, where incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is expected to seek re-election.
