The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially announced Mr. Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election conducted on February 21, 2026.
The Returning Officer for the poll, Prof. Mohammed Nurudeen, made the declaration on Sunday in Bwari, confirming that Ishaku secured a total of 18,466 votes to emerge victorious in the contest.

“I am the returning officer for the 2026 FCT Area Council Bwari chairmanship election held on Feb. 21, 2026.
Joshua Ishaku, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said.
Prof. Nurudeen further disclosed that the candidate of the African Democratic Congress finished in second position with 4,254 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party candidate placed third after polling 3,515 votes.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the election took place across 10 wards within the council area, namely Igu, Shere, Dutse, Ushafa, Byazhin, Kuduru, Kubwa, Usuma, Bwari Central, and Kawu, where eligible voters turned out to cast their ballots.
The declaration concludes the collation process for the Bwari chairmanship race, confirming Ishaku’s mandate to lead the council following the February 21 exercise.
