In a recent interview with Channels TV, former Big Brother Naija housemate Adeoluwa Okusaga, better known as “Saga,” opened up about his unconventional journey from the structured world of engineering to the unpredictable spotlight of reality television and Nollywood.
Saga, who competed in the 2021 “Shine Ya Eye” season of Big Brother Naija—where he was evicted in the ninth week—made it clear that his appearance on the show was no accident or whim. “I went to Big Brother Naija to launch my career as an entertainer,” he stated candidly. “I am an engineer. My colleagues at work begged me to go for Big Brother Nigeria; they said I would do well.”
The revelation highlights a deliberate career pivot. Before entering the BBNaija house, Saga had built a solid professional foundation as an offshore oil and gas engineer, a role that demanded precision, problem-solving, and technical expertise—often working long shifts ensuring well completions and operational safety. Yet, those same colleagues spotted something more in him: charisma, creativity, and an innate ability to connect with people, qualities they believed would shine on national television.
Saga himself credits the engineering mindset for his smooth transition into entertainment. “As an engineer, you have to have a powerful imagination, understanding, and skill,” he explained. Drawing a historical parallel, he added, “A lot of artists like Da Vinci ended up as engineers because it’s a parallel.” The comparison underscores his view that creativity and technical thinking are not opposites but complementary forces—engineers must envision solutions, much like artists imagine worlds.
Since his eviction from the BBNaija house, Saga has wasted no time capitalizing on the platform. He has launched a full-fledged acting career in Nollywood, starring in over a dozen movies. His credits include romantic dramas, thrillers, and more, showcasing his versatility on screen. In late 2025, he took his ambitions further by producing his debut film, Falling Notes, a romantic project he also co-wrote and scored—driven by what he describes as a “creative instinct and the need to express myself beyond acting.”
Saga’s story is one of many former BBNaija participants who have used the reality show as a springboard into entertainment. But his path stands out for its premeditated nature and the bridge he draws between his technical background and artistic pursuits. From offshore rigs to film sets, and from colleagues’ encouragement to audience acclaim, Saga’s evolution reflects a broader trend: in Nigeria’s dynamic creative economy, talent often finds its stage in unexpected ways, and sometimes all it takes is a push from those who see the potential first.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Saga entered Big Brother Naija not by chance, but with a clear strategy: to launch his entertainment career. His engineering background—marked by creativity, imagination, and problem-solving—directly fueled his smooth and successful transition into acting and filmmaking, proving that technical minds can thrive in the arts when they choose to step into the spotlight.
