The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Governor Chukwuma Soludo as the winner of the November 8 Anambra State governorship election.

The Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Edogah Omoregie, made the announcement at the INEC headquarters in Awka on Sunday.

Soludo, who contested under the banner of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured a resounding victory with a total of 422,664 votes, reaffirming his stronghold in the state. His closest challenger, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), garnered 99,445 votes, placing a distant second.

Paul Chukwuma, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, followed with 37,753 votes, while George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) obtained 10,576 votes. John Nwosu, representing the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC), rounded up the top contenders with 8,208 votes.

The election, which recorded low voter turnout in some areas, was largely described as peaceful despite reports of vote-buying and isolated cases of violence in certain local government areas. Soludo’s victory cements APGA’s dominance in Anambra politics, continuing a legacy of governance that began with former Governor Peter Obi and was sustained through successive administrations.

What you should know

Governor Chukwuma Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria governor and economics professor, secured a second term after winning the 2025 Anambra governorship election by a wide margin.

His victory under the APGA platform highlights his enduring influence in state politics, despite challenges of low voter participation and allegations of electoral misconduct.
