President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Professor Chukwuma Soludo following his re-election as the Governor of Anambra State.

Soludo secured a decisive second-term victory, winning across all 21 local government areas in the November 8 election, according to the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

This victory marks Soludo as only the third governor in Anambra’s history to achieve a second consecutive term in office.

In a personally signed statement, President Tinubu described Soludo’s re-election as a reflection of his “visionary leadership” and the “remarkable progress” witnessed under his administration.

“Governor Soludo, the Solution, has demonstrated that knowledge is indeed power and that academic principles can be applied in serving the people, undergirding accountability, transparency, and prudent management of people and resources,” Tinubu stated.

The President recalled his visit to Anambra in May, where he inaugurated several projects initiated by the Soludo administration, noting the intellectual depth and innovation behind them. “I highlighted the good thinking behind the landmark projects embarked upon by Mr Solution. That experience is indeed remarkable and will remain indelible in my mind,” he said.

Tinubu praised Soludo’s governance style, lauding his “discipline, grace, brilliance, and fresh perspective,” which, according to him, have made Anambra live up to its title as “the Light of the Nation.”

The President urged Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and to reach out to his political opponents for collaboration in advancing the state’s development. “I assure Governor Soludo of my unwavering support and look forward to continued collaboration between Anambra and the Federal Government,” he added.

Tinubu also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under its new Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, for conducting what he termed “a credible and transparent election.” He encouraged the commission to “maintain high standards and continue improving its performance so we can strengthen and deepen our electoral system.”

Declaring the results at INEC’s state headquarters in Awka, the Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Omoregie Edoba, announced, “I hereby declare that Soludo Chukwuma Charles of the APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

Soludo, representing the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), garnered 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who obtained 99,445 votes.

Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) finished third with 37,753 votes, while John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 8,208. George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 10,576 and 1,401 votes, respectively.

Tinubu emphasized that Soludo’s victory, under the opposition’s All Progressives Grand Alliance, demonstrates “the vitality of Nigeria’s democracy” and that “victory for any progressive and hardworking leader can hardly be encumbered or denied.”
