Rayo, refusing to sit back, came close to snatching victory through Alvaro Garcia, who fired over in a late counterattack. Alonso introduced Trent Alexander-Arnold in the closing minutes as the England international continues his return from injury, but even that spark couldn’t change the result.
Arda Guler nearly won it for Madrid deep in stoppage time, but his deflected shot went just wide, ensuring Rayo earned a hard-fought point.
After the match, Alonso called for balance and patience despite the setback. “I want to keep growing, improving, with positive and constructive self-criticism—this is Real Madrid, we all know where we are and what we want,” he said.
Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla, named one of the game’s standout performers, praised his team’s spirit. “To balance the difference in quality between us and Madrid, we had to push harder. But I saw a Madrid trying hard too, with a lot of intensity,” he told DAZN.
