The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has officially rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Jibrin, who defected from the APC in May 2022 to join the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), made his return public during a large political rally held in his hometown, Kofa, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, on Sunday.

In a post shared via his official Facebook page on Monday, Jibrin announced that his political supporters had unanimously agreed to leave the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement to align with the ruling party.

“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” he wrote. “The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office. From the beginning, almost 2,000 scholars from my constituency have prayed special prayers for the President and sought peace, development, and progress for Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria altogether.”

Jibrin’s return to the APC comes just two months after he was expelled from the NNPP over allegations of anti-party activities and failure to pay membership dues.

At the time, the lawmaker described his expulsion as “shocking and unjustified,” arguing that the reasons cited by the NNPP were baseless.

“The interview I granted in both English and Hausa, which the party cited as the basis for my suspension, did not warrant such a heavy penalty,” he said. “The NNPP violated the principles of fair hearing and due process. I was expelled without being given an opportunity to defend myself.”

Despite deeming the action unfair, Jibrin stated that he accepted the party’s decision in good faith and would not challenge it in court. “I have accepted the decision in good faith. I will not challenge it in court,” he said, stressing that he had always paid his dues as required.

Jibrin, who once served as Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups, criticized the NNPP’s leadership for failing to appreciate the contributions of its members. “The NNPP has failed to value its members,” he lamented, while expressing gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve.

He urged his followers to join him in his “new journey” back to the APC and to maintain peace with those who choose to remain in the NNPP.

Jibrin’s defection is being viewed as a strategic gain for the APC in Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most politically influential regions, especially as the build-up to the 2027 general elections intensifies.

What You Should Know
Abdulmumin Jibrin, a prominent Kano politician and federal lawmaker, has had a long history with the APC, where he previously served as the Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups.

His return to the ruling party and endorsement of President Tinubu’s 2027 ambition mark a significant political realignment ahead of the next general elections.
