President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to candidates who emerged victorious in Saturday’s elections held in the Federal Capital Territory as well as in parts of Kano and Rivers states.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission conducted polls across the six area councils of the FCT, alongside by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies of Rivers State, and Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

The FCT elections covered both chairmanship and councillorship positions in Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji area councils.
Similarly, legislative by-elections were organised in Kano Municipal and Ungogo in Kano State, as well as in Ahoada East II and Khana II in Rivers State to fill vacant seats.
Results declared so far by INEC indicate that the All Progressives Congress secured victories in Abaji, Kwali, AMAC, and Bwari Area Councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party claimed only Gwagwalada Area Council.
In the state constituency by-elections, the APC also won both available seats in Rivers State.
President Tinubu urged those elected to approach their responsibilities with modesty, patriotism, and commitment, describing the mandate given to them as “a sacred trust.”
He also “commends the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his remarkable achievements in the territory, which have yielded political dividends to the governing APC.”

The President further congratulated the APC’s national leadership, along with party structures in Kano and Rivers states, and party members nationwide for their performance in the elections.
“President Tinubu lauds the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and voters for the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections.
“He further commends the courage and discipline displayed by all the contestants, stating that democracy is enriched with the vibrancy of participation and competition.
“President Tinubu affirms that the successful conduct of the elections further strengthens democratic culture and institutions and calls on INEC to continue improving its efforts to deliver even more exemplary electoral processes,” the statement added.

Reports indicated that voter turnout was relatively low during the elections, while opposition parties raised concerns and alleged irregularities.
Earlier, the PDP inaugurated a special legal team to pursue election petitions arising from the FCT Area Council polls.
