Gunmen attack police station, kill officers
Gunmen have attacked a police patrol team in Anambra State, leaving at least two officers dead.
According to Daily Post, the incident happened along the Awa–Ndiukwuenu–Ufuma Road, where the armed men reportedly ambushed officers of the Anambra State Police Command who were on duty.
The attackers opened fire on the patrol team, killing two officers on the spot and leaving their bodies on the road.
The area, which had reportedly enjoyed a period of relative calm in recent months, was thrown into panic following the renewed violence.
A tricycle operator who was passing through the road at the time said he suddenly heard heavy gunshots ahead and quickly abandoned his vehicle to hide inside the bush for safety.
After some time, he came out and later found the scene of the attack, where the police vehicle was still parked by the roadside and the bodies of the officers were lying on the ground.
In a voice message shared after the incident, he said he initially thought one of the officers might still be alive and called for urgent attention from security authorities to respond to the scene.
