Former Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Services, Bala Wunti, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Wunti made his declaration during a courtesy visit to the Bauchi Local Government chapter of the APC at the party’s secretariat, signaling his entry into what is expected to be a competitive race.
In a statement released by Abubakar Al-Sadique, Chief Communication Officer of the Bala Wunti Support Organisation, the move was described as a response to widespread calls from citizens, stakeholders, and supporters across the state rather than personal ambition.
Speaking during the visit, Wunti emphasized that his decision was driven by a sense of responsibility toward the future of the state, particularly its youth. He said he felt compelled to step forward due to mounting pressure to help address unemployment and secure opportunities for the next generation.

He also used the opportunity to congratulate the newly inaugurated APC leadership in Bauchi Local Government Area and reaffirmed his loyalty to the party. Wunti pledged that, if elected, his administration would focus on inclusive governance, sustainable development, and equal opportunities for all residents.
Meanwhile, political developments in the state have intensified following the resignation of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, earlier in the week. His exit has fueled speculation that he may also enter the governorship race under the APC, potentially reshaping the contest.
During the event, the Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Yahaya Mohammed Miya, introduced Wunti to party stakeholders, noting that the visit aimed to strengthen unity and consolidate support within the APC.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Biyali, praised Wunti as a distinguished figure with a strong track record in mentorship and community development, highlighting his influence in nurturing individuals who have gone on to occupy key leadership positions.
With more potential aspirants expected to declare their intentions, the 2027 Bauchi governorship race is already shaping up to be a significant political contest within the APC.
