ADC Chairman’s Daughter Backs Tinubu’s Re-Election

Hon. Blessing Onuh, a member of the House of Representatives and daughter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman, David Mark, has stepped into a prominent role supporting the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, joining the leadership of a pro-Tinubu campaign organisation at a politically sensitive period.

The development comes at a critical point in Nigeria’s evolving political environment, positioning the daughter of a major opposition leader within the President’s re-election machinery and raising fresh concerns about loyalty, public perception, and internal unity within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to intensify.

Her appointment as National Woman Leader of the Take Action Campaign Organisation was announced on Saturday by its Director General, Tony Nwulu, a former lawmaker known for sponsoring the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill during the 8th National Assembly.

Nwulu formally presented her appointment letter at the organisation’s campaign office in Abuja.

“I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure President Tinubu’s victory at the upcoming election,” Onuh said.

Her new position places her firmly within a campaign structure designed to drive the President’s second-term ambition, even as her father continues to play a leading role in coordinating an opposition coalition under the ADC platform.

“This organisation is focused on showcasing the various achievements and educating the Nigerian masses on the reforms and policies of Mr President,” she added.

The timing of her move is particularly notable. David Mark is not only the chairman of the ADC but also a central figure in efforts to build a broad-based coalition aimed at challenging Tinubu’s re-election.

The alliance includes key political heavyweights such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, Aminu Tambuwal, Liyel Imoke, and Emeka Ihedioha, among others, though the coalition has already begun to show signs of internal strain and competing ambitions.

The opposition effort has also suffered notable setbacks. In January, Abba Abubakar, son of Atiku Abubakar, publicly defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging his support for Tinubu’s second-term bid and directing his political structure to mobilise in favour of the President.

Onuh’s alignment with a pro-Tinubu campaign group may not necessarily reflect a formal shift in party affiliation, but it underscores the mounting pressure on the ADC to maintain cohesion as political alignments continue to shift.

Meanwhile, Tony Nwulu stated that the Take Action Campaign Organisation remains focused on promoting the administration’s achievements and communicating the policies of the Renewed Hope Agenda to voters nationwide.

What you should know

The decision by Blessing Onuh to join a pro-Tinubu campaign highlights growing political realignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

Coming from the family of David Mark, a key opposition figure, her move raises questions about unity within the African Democratic Congress and the strength of the emerging opposition coalition.

It also reflects a broader trend of shifting loyalties that could shape the electoral landscape, influence voter perception, and determine how effectively opposition forces can challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
