The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed four senior police officers over alleged misconduct and approved disciplinary actions against 31 other officers for various offences.

The commission announced the decision in a statement issued by its Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, after a plenary meeting held at its corporate headquarters in Abuja.

According to the statement, the four officers were dismissed after they were found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct and acts considered unbecoming of public officers.

The PSC also approved the reduction in rank of 10 senior police officers.

Three Superintendents of Police were demoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, while two Deputy Superintendents of Police were reduced to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police.

In addition, five Assistant Superintendents of Police were demoted to the rank of Inspector.

The commission also approved the compulsory retirement of two officers in the public interest.

Other disciplinary measures included severe reprimands for 10 officers, reprimands for five officers, warning letters for three officers, and a letter of advice for one officer.

The PSC also cleared seven officers after finding them not guilty of the allegations against them.

Speaking on the decisions, the Chairman of the commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, said the PSC would continue to enforce discipline within the Nigeria Police Force.

He said, “The current Board of the PSC under my watch will not condone any form of misconduct by police officers.”

Argungu added, “The Commission will continue to uphold discipline in the Force and match all forms of misconduct with commensurate disciplinary actions.”

He also stated that the commission would continue to recognise and reward deserving police officers through its established reward system.
