Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has obtained the presidential nomination form of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the form was collected on Amaechi’s behalf at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday by a delegation led by former Edo State Governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, alongside other prominent political stakeholders.

The forms were officially presented to Amaechi’s representatives by the ADC Deputy National Organising Secretary, Atiku Mohammed.

With this development, Amaechi has become the second aspirant to formally enter the ADC presidential contest after Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who had earlier obtained both the expression of interest and nomination forms.

Amaechi’s entry into the race adds fresh momentum to the party’s presidential primary process as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

The development comes amid ongoing leadership disputes and multiple court cases involving the ADC.

The internal challenges had earlier triggered the exit of notable opposition figures including Peter Obiand Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, both of whom defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Reacting to the high-profile defections, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi had described their departure as a premeditated political move unrelated to the party’s internal crisis.

Despite the lingering disputes and pending legal battles, ADC National Chairman David Mark has assured party members that the party remains committed to participating fully in the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi’s decision to formally join the race is expected to further shape conversations around the ADC’s internal dynamics and the broader opposition landscape as parties continue preparations for the next presidential contest.

What You Should Know

Rotimi Amaechi’s decision to obtain the ADC presidential nomination form makes him the second official aspirant in the party’s 2027 presidential race.

His entry comes at a critical time for the ADC, which is battling internal legal disputes and recovering from the exit of major political figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Amaechi’s participation could strengthen the party’s profile and reshape opposition calculations ahead of 2027, especially if the ADC successfully resolves its internal challenges before its primary elections.
