Governor Peter Mbah has reportedly emerged as the new Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, succeeding Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Sources disclosed that the decision was reached during an extraordinary meeting of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, held on Thursday night in Abuja.
The development came only hours after Uzodimma represented APC governors during the submission of the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
According to sources familiar with the development, about 20 APC governors reportedly attended the closed-door meeting, including governors from Ogun, Bayelsa and Enugu states.
Mbah’s emergence is being viewed as a major political shift within the ruling party as consultations and strategic alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 political cycle.
Though official details surrounding the reported leadership change remain limited as of press time, party insiders said the move was part of broader efforts to reposition the forum and strengthen collaboration among governors elected on the APC platform.

The reported change follows recent signs of internal tensions within the forum, with political observers closely watching developments for indications of evolving power dynamics within the ruling party.
The Progressive Governors Forum remains one of the most influential blocs within the APC, often shaping major political decisions, internal negotiations and strategic direction ahead of national elections.
Mbah’s reported emergence is expected to trigger fresh discussions within political circles over what the leadership transition could mean for the APC’s internal structure and future alignments.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the PGF secretariat nor Governor Uzodimma had issued an official statement confirming the development.
