Supporters of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, are set to converge in Abuja on Saturday for a political unity summit seen as part of growing efforts to harmonise opposition interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The summit, themed “One Voice, One Vision: In Unity We Win,” is being organised by the OK Movement, a political advocacy group promoting collaboration among opposition blocs.

A flyer shared on X on Friday revealed that eight speakers are scheduled to address participants at the event, with discussions expected to centre on political cooperation, strategic alignment, and the future of opposition politics in Nigeria.

Among those billed to speak are political figures and activists including Buba Galadima, Aisha Yesufu, and Isaac Fayose.

Others listed for the event include Moses Paul, a former African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate, and Adebayo Adefolaseye, who serves as the OK Movement’s South-West coordinator.

The gathering comes amid heightened speculation over possible political realignments involving both Obi and Kwankwaso as opposition figures continue consultations ahead of the 2027 polls.

There have been increasing reports suggesting that both politicians may consider defecting from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a development that could significantly alter opposition calculations ahead of the next election cycle.

Political observers believe the summit may provide insight into emerging coalition strategies and signal the direction of ongoing conversations around opposition unity.

Although neither Obi nor Kwankwaso has officially confirmed any planned defection or alliance, the planned summit has intensified discussions over whether a broader opposition coalition could emerge to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.

The event is expected to attract political stakeholders, supporters, and observers closely monitoring possible shifts within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

What You Should Know

The Abuja unity summit reflects increasing efforts by supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to explore political collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections.

While no formal alliance has been announced, the event has fueled speculation about possible opposition realignments that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

With key political voices scheduled to speak, the summit may offer early signals about coalition-building strategies and the future direction of opposition politics.

Analysts believe any successful partnership involving both camps could significantly influence the electoral dynamics of 2027, particularly if it leads to a broader coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of the ruling APC.
