Hackers access Nigerian bank, steal customers’ information
Zenith Bank has started investigating a cyber incident involving unauthorised access to some customer details, including email addresses and phone numbers.
The bank disclosed the development on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, saying the affected information was limited and that its banking operations were not affected by the incident.
Zenith Bank said the breach was linked to a wider cyberattack targeting several organisations around the world across different sectors.
The financial institution added that it activated its security response systems immediately after detecting the issue.
The bank assured customers that its core banking platforms and digital services are still working normally and remain protected.
Customers were advised to be careful of possible scams that may come through emails, text messages or phone calls following the incident.
The bank warned them not to share private security details such as passwords, PINs, One-Time Passwords and other account protection information with anyone.
Zenith Bank said it remains committed to keeping customers’ information safe and continues to take steps to address the situation.
The bank also encouraged customers who need clarification or assistance to contact its customer service channels through Zenith Direct.
