Former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has attributed her achievements in office and the relative calm experienced within the ministry to the autonomy she received from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during a grand reception held in her honour in Umunneochi Local Government Area, Onyejeocha expressed appreciation to the President for entrusting her with the responsibility to serve at the federal level, noting that the latitude she was given played a crucial role in delivering results.

She also hinted strongly at her political future, suggesting that she may soon formally declare her ambition ahead of the 2027 elections. This comes amid growing pressure from her constituents urging her to return to the National Assembly.

Reflecting on her time in office, Onyejeocha highlighted several interventions she facilitated, including federal involvement in addressing longstanding erosion issues affecting communities in Isuikwuato and Umunneochi. She also pointed to achievements such as the establishment of educational institutions, job opportunities for youths, scholarship initiatives, and annual medical outreach programmes.

While calling for continued support for President Tinubu, she raised concerns about attempts by some political actors to diminish her influence in her home constituency.

“There are not enough demons to stop me,” she declared, underscoring her confidence and determination to pursue her political goals.

On funding her anticipated political campaign, Onyejeocha revealed that although supporters had offered to purchase her nomination forms, she had already made provisions for it herself. However, she encouraged that such contributions could instead be directed towards her free medical outreach initiatives.

In recognition of her contributions, traditional rulers in Umunneochi conferred on her the chieftaincy title “Anyanwu Nenye Ihe I” (the sun that gives light).

Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, HRH Eze Franklin Ohalezim described Onyejeocha as a standout leader whose impact has been felt across the constituency and beyond. He cited her role in attracting federal institutions such as the Federal School of Aviation and the Federal Polytechnic, Ngodo Isuochi, alongside her continued investments in healthcare and education.

Also speaking at the event, Abia State APC Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, praised Onyejeocha as a hardworking and principled leader, noting that her record in public service remains without controversy. He urged stakeholders to support her for higher responsibilities.

Representing the President, APC National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Nwankpa, commended her performance and assured party members of a fair and transparent primary process ahead of future elections.

He encouraged her constituents to rally behind her as she prepares for the next phase of her political journey.

The ceremony also saw President Tinubu honoured with the chieftaincy title “Ikeoha” (Strength of the People), reflecting his influence within the ruling party and among grassroots supporters.

Dignitaries at the event included several political figures and stakeholders across party lines, highlighting the significance of the occasion within the state’s political landscape.

What You Should Know

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha’s remarks highlight the importance of executive support in public service delivery, particularly within Nigeria’s federal system.

By crediting President Tinubu’s leadership style for her success, she reinforces a narrative of decentralised authority enabling performance. Her hinted return to electoral politics signals early positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, where experience and grassroots support could shape outcomes.

The endorsements and honours she received reflect strong local backing, while her focus on development projects strengthens her political profile.

Overall, her next move will likely influence political alignments within Abia State and the broader APC structure.
