The Nigeria Immigration Service has launched an investigation following online reports alleging widespread extortion by its personnel along the Lagos-Seme border corridor.
As part of immediate actions, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, ordered the suspension of comptrollers in charge of the affected commands to ensure a transparent probe.
In a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the agency strongly condemned the alleged misconduct, describing it as unacceptable and a violation of its operational standards and core values.
The immigration leadership has directed a comprehensive investigation to identify all officers involved, with a promise that those found culpable will face immediate disciplinary action.
The service also reassured the public of its commitment to professionalism and efficiency across all entry and exit points in Nigeria.
It stressed that any behaviour capable of undermining public trust or damaging the institution’s reputation will not be tolerated.
To strengthen accountability, the NIS urged citizens to report any misconduct through its 24-hour contact centre and official social media platforms.
According to Akinlabi, the move reflects the agency’s mission to promote lawful migration while maintaining discipline and professionalism across its operations.
