Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State have arrested 12 suspected troublemakers in a swift move to prevent further unrest, as authorities intensify efforts to restore calm following recent tensions.

The Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended shortly after Jumat prayers in the Zololo area of Jos. According to him, the individuals allegedly attempted to incite violence and disrupt public order.

Ewah explained that security operatives were already on alert and responded quickly when the suspects, reportedly armed with sticks, tried to move toward the Nasarawa area. He confirmed that all 12 individuals are now in custody and will face prosecution in line with the law.

He emphasized the command’s firm stance against any form of disturbance, warning that security agencies would not tolerate attempts to destabilize the state.

The police commissioner linked the heightened security presence to the recent visit of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that it led to increased deployment of personnel across Plateau. He also acknowledged the support of the Inspector General of Police and other senior officers in strengthening security operations.

According to Ewah, more than 300 additional officers and four mobile police units have been deployed to the state, while other security agencies have reinforced their presence.

Plateau Police Parades Suspects

He further revealed that coordinated joint patrols involving multiple security forces are currently ongoing, aimed at responding swiftly to threats and maintaining law and order across the state.

While describing the Jumat prayers as peaceful, Ewah warned of the presence of “merchants of conflict” attempting to stir violence but assured residents of the command’s readiness to counter such threats.

He also reiterated that strict enforcement of existing security measures remains in place, including the curfew, restrictions on motorcycle (okada) operations, and limits on tricycle (keke napep) movement.

The commissioner commended the Plateau State Government for its cooperation and expressed confidence that continued collaboration among security agencies would help restore lasting peace in the region.

Residents have been urged to remain law-abiding and support ongoing efforts to stabilize the state.

What you should know

The arrest of 12 suspects in Jos highlights intensified security efforts in Plateau State following recent violence.

With increased police deployment and joint patrols, authorities are working to prevent further unrest. The enforcement of curfews and movement restrictions signals a zero-tolerance approach to instability.

Officials believe collaboration between security agencies and the public will be key to restoring lasting peace, especially amid concerns about recurring attacks in the state.
