The Chief of Staff to the Zamfara State Governor, Mouktar Lugga, narrowly escaped a gunmen attack on Thursday evening along the Gusau–Funtua highway in yet another security scare in Zamfara State.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. near Kucheri village in Tsafe Local Government Area, when armed assailants reportedly emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the convoy conveying the senior government official.
During the ambush, one of the bullets pierced the windscreen of the vehicle, narrowly missing the driver, while another attacker’s weapon reportedly malfunctioned at close range. Despite the intensity of the assault, the driver managed to skillfully manoeuvre the vehicle out of danger, ensuring that all occupants escaped unharmed.

Confirming the development to newsmen, Lugga stated that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.
“They emerged from the bush and shot at my vehicle, but Alhamdulillah, we are all safe. The bullet did not hit anyone,” he said.
The attack adds to the growing list of security incidents along major highways in Zamfara State, a region that continues to grapple with persistent threats from armed groups and banditry.
