The Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Sheikh Abdullahi Pakistan, has resigned from his position.

The resignation happened late on Monday night, February 9, 2026, according to Western Post.

Sheikh Pakistan was appointed as NAHCON chairman in 2024, where he replaced Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi.

His resignation followed several issues that arose during his time in office, including allegations of incompetence, maladministration, and corrupt practices.

During his tenure, the former NAHCON boss was criticised for the way he handled this year’s hajj exercise. Many people feared that his actions could prevent several intending pilgrims from taking part in the annual pilgrimage.

A source within NAHCON, who asked not to be named, spoke about the situation.

The source said: “Saudi authorities had earlier given Monday, February 9 as the last day for the capturing of the pilgrims’ papers.

“But by that date most pilgrims, medical and operational staff, among others, were yet to be captured as Chairman Pakistan continued to delay the finalization of the process.”

The source explained that the delay in completing the required documentation affected many pilgrims and officials who were preparing for the hajj.

As of the time of this report, NAHCON has not officially announced who will take over from Sheikh Abdullahi Pakistan.

The resignation has continued to generate reactions among stakeholders in the hajj sector, as many await further decisions from the relevant authorities.
